The Hardships of Reporting Hockey News in the South

There's a problem being a hockey fan in the South: the hockey news is extremely lacking.  The News & Observer  has an article once in awhile about the Canes and the Cane's (as well as the NHL's)  website doesn't offer much in news either.  I know the summer as a whole is slow in news, but at least in the northern states and Canada there is a constant flow of hockey news to satisfy even the regular hockey fan.

But, even during the season the absence of hockey news is practically the same as it is now.  We unfortunately live in an area where basketball and football dominate so much that even baseball, let alone ice hockey, is barely reported here. With that said, the minimal amount of hockey news around here is a win-lose situation: a win for the players, a lose for the fans.  For the players that have played for teams up north the pressure to play for those teams is immense because they are under a constant media microscope.  For them to play in a non-traditional market where the media is going to look at your sport last can be seen as a blessing for them.  The pressure is off for the players and they can do what they do best: play the sport.  But, it's a losing situation for the fans, too strictly because they can't get any news on their players unless someone like Luke DeCock of the N&O publishes an article.  For our market there should be more of a media focus, but not to the point where the players personal and private lives are compromised like those in the hockey-mad markets.

I know this is a short article, but we really want your input as well as suggestions!  Where do you get your hockey news?
