Chris Cole and Andrew Caldwell founded The Original Caniac blog as a way to further discuss and publish our musings and interests in our local NHL team, the Carolina Hurricanes. We grew up playing hockey outside on the street and watching hockey before the Hurricanes came to Raleigh. Growing up as kids we would go to see the Canes play in Greensboro and were present at the inaugural game played in Raleigh at the then-called Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena (the ESA). About C. Cole
I am originally from Canada and grew up supporting the Carolina Hurricanes and the Montreal Canadiens. I like all levels of hockey from juniors, college, minors, elite leagues, and the NHL. I graduated from Appalachian State University with a History, Social Studies Education degree and in the process of becoming a full-time teacher somewhere. Some of my favorite moments of being a Canes fan is going with friends, cheering on the team, and the sense of community that happens all around you in the stands. A defining memory for me was being able to play a hockey game at Greensboro Coliseum a couple hours before the Hurricanes were to play the Detroit Red Wings. Nothing beats being a youth and playing on the same ice that the pros do!

I have been a Canes fan since 1997 when they came to North Carolina. I was a season ticket holder back in the Greensboro days and am a season ticket holder currently. I have enjoyed many memories as a Canes fan, but nothing can come close to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. I get goosebumps whenever I see anything about that Stanley Cup run. I can say without a shadow of a doubt, I bleed red. I will forever be a Caniac.
